Signed from Glasgow juniors St. Anthony`s, Jimmy Smith was a tricky, skilful striker who won over the fans with a goal on his debut. He scored 18 times in his first season at East End Park but thereafter was switched to inside-forward to accommodate other players.
The anger on the terraces increased when he was loaned to Clydebank before being sold for a derisory fee, a lot less than the £2,130 paid by Hearts eighteen months later.
In seven years at Tynecastle Jimmy gained three Scottish League caps and came close to full international recognition.
